It is important to choose the bottom sand suitable for ornamental fish. So how to choose the bottom sand for aquarium imaging? The aquarium design and construction project will come to tell everyone how to choose the bottom sand for aquarium landscaping?
1. Types of bottom sand for aquarium landscaping
(1) Coral sand: coral or shell fragments, with the characteristics of continuous release of calcium carbonate, can maintain the pH value of the water in an alkaline state. It is suitable for marine fish, invertebrate marine life, cichlid fish and crustaceans in the three major lakes of East Africa.
(2) Silica sand: mostly imported from the United States and the Netherlands, it is very stable in the water, and the particles are fine and have ornamental value. It is suitable for fish species in soft water, such as cichlids from rivers, small scorpions, fish and ratfish, and suitable for aquatic landscaping.
(3) Yilan sand: because it has black and white colors, it is more beautiful, but the particles are uneven and are rarely used in ecological tanks. Application: Medium and large fish species.
(4) Driftwood: imported from Africa, the Netherlands or Southeast Asia, each with different styles, and each has a different style. But before using, it is advisable to determine whether it can be submerged in water and soak in advance to remove the color. It is mostly used in landscaping tanks with acidic soft water, and can become a hiding place for some small fish.
(5) Rock slices: There are many kinds of rocks with ornamental value, such as black shale or petrified wood, but they should be washed to remove debris before use. Before using, consider whether it will affect the water quality, and some will become the spawning bed of platform spawning fish species.
2. Precautions for the bottom sand of aquarium landscaping
(1) The sand at the bottom of the aquarium should not be too thick. It is better to choose slightly finer sand. But it should not be too fine. Too fine sand can easily block the bottom of the aquarium. According to empirical judgment, the diameter of the bottom sand should be at least 1 mm or more, so as not to cause blockage.
(2) For aquariums without a heating system, generally use a mixture of silica sand and Duplarit base fertilizer as the bottom layer, plus two-thirds of the washed silica sand, with a diameter of 1 to 2 mm, and the height of the entire bottom layer of 2 to 3 cm. It is necessary to limit the height or thickness of the bottom layer to ensure limited and necessary water flow and alternation.
(3) For the aquarium with heating system, the height of the bottom layer can reach 3-5 cm, and the bottom sand can also choose 1-2 mm stone. Of course, it must be cleaned before putting it into the aquarium. The choice of bottom sand for aquarium landscaping should be suitable for the species of ornamental fish. There are many types of bottom sand, and not all of them are suitable for the ornamental fish at home. Farmers should pay special attention to this point. The diameter of the bottom sand should be at least 1 mm. It is not allowed to cause blockage.
